How to Get Your Dog to Behave

The general liability part of your Florida home insurance may cover more than just falls. This coverage may also kick in when your beloved canine caused an injury. Biting can occur even with the friendliest of dogs who greet each guest by jumping up on them. You may be able to lower the chances of a pooch-related injury by putting your pet through behavioral training.

Behavioral training is simply a fancy phrase for teaching the animal what to do and what not to do. While it is possible to train your dog yourself, many pet owners find it easier to let a professional handle it. There are two basic levels of training classes: puppy kindergarten and obedience class.

All dogs should start off in puppy kindergarten. This stage of learning offers multiple benefits. It gets the pup used to going to the classes, helps them learn to listen, and gives them a chance to learn about other dogs.

Once they graduate to obedience classes, canines should begin to learn actual skills such as walking with a leash, sitting on command, and being quiet. The average class is about two months. While you dog may seem well behaved afterwards, it is vital you continue to practice the skills with the animal to cement them in its memory.

Animals that are unsuccessful in being trained should be kept away from guests when you have company over. This will help prevent filing a liability claim on your Florida home insurance due to an unruly pet.
